Note: Not validly published under ICBN 34.2 (1994). St. John used the same collection, R. Hobdy 2231 (BISH! [2]) for the type of both this name and S. kulaensis. D. Gowing, who assisted St. John in publishing this paper, annotated a reprint indicating that R. Hobdy 2231 was an error for H. St. John 10252. This St. John collection, according to his collection book, was a fern; however, St. John 10251 was a collection of Stenogyne sessilis and is most likely the collection St. John used. A sheet of this collection at BISH was annotated as S. kukuiensis by St. John.
